THORA KARLSDÓTTIR
BIO
Thora Karlsdóttir is an Icelandic visual artist who works in different mediums, her artwork is more about the subject than the object. She studied art in Luxembourg and then in Germany where she graduated from the European Kunstacademi in Fine Art in Trier in 2013. Thora is running an Artist Residency in Grundarfjörður for International artists, and in October she opened a Gallery in Skipholt 9 in Reykjavík. Thora is currently a student at the MA programme in the fine art department at the Iceland University of the Arts.
Love the Earth
Currently I am working on a long-term project Love the Earth where I focus on Love as a fundamental element in our relationship with the earth. The work has been shown in different places and versions and this time it includes a drone shot video and a mind map on a piece of paper. The video displays a text work I performed in a land art project in the Westfjords, last summer. The text says: The Earth Loves you, do you love the earth? There I worked with red sand in nature. The dimension of the work is 8X9 meters. The mind map is for guests to interact with. I ask them to write on the mind map if they can connect/relate to the subject and give a „like“ if they like. The work offers the viewer a chance to contemplate their relationship with the earth.
