JÚLÍANNA ÓSK HAFBERG
BIO
Júlíanna’s work builds on the foundation of radical softness, vulnerability and feminine energies. She uses playfulness to explore and weave together many different mediums in her pieces, from painting, drawing and textile to woodworking, glass cutting and poetry. Her work is there to evoke feelings of lightness, abundance and care and to make space for emotions and thoughts in an often harsh and fast paced world that we live in in today’s society.

I’m soft, rounded my emotions are fluid flowing. i don’t fit into a box - the squares made by men for production convenience capitalisation, mass consumption. i’m organic like every single shape and line and curve and edge you find in nature.
The square is the dominant shape in our man made world. The screens, our phones, doors, walls, windows. The photograph, papermoney, our credit cards. The piece of paper, the frame, the canvas. A pure production convenience in a masculine driven capitalist society. By manipulating hard materials like wood and glass into soft shapes Júlíanna is expanding the feminine influence onto the shape of the pieces themselves. The form consciously contributing to the visual and emotional language of the pieces and the ambience they create together.
